Round Two Courses
Round Two courses conclude at the end of this week and students will receive their certificates in the final session of their course. Reports for all courses will be forwarded to schools by August 30. Designing and delivering interesting and challenging courses is our primary focus and we strive to maintain a dynamic and varied program. We would like to thank Mark Sadler and Jacques Phillips (Scitech), Sasha Thompson (AQWA), Rachael Bott (Dance), Sherree Tomlinson (Photography – Balcatta SHS), Torsten Knorr (Art), Jodie Grieve (Padbury SHS), Carina Gemignani (Naturaliste Discovery Centre), staff at Yanchep National Park, Scitech and Perth Zoo for assisting in the delivery of some of our courses.
Staff
Although we move around to other centres and external venues during the week, each staff member is “attached” to one particular centre as follows:
Balcatta PEAC Stephen Sunderland & Lance Byfield
Kinross PEAC Helen Mills & Sabine Winton
Mt Claremont PEAC Heather Nankivell & Wendy Hawkes
Padbury PEAC Kirsteen McCrory, Jane Caswell & Tara Hannent
Portfolios
Year 5s and 6s who are participating in their very first PEAC course will receive a portfolio this week. Other students in Years 5 and 6 should have received a portfolio in a previous course. Portfolios will come home with students at the end of each course, allowing you to share what they have done. They are then to be returned to the PEAC teacher at the beginning of the next course. Please ensure that signed photo permission slips and all PEAC reports are included in the portfolio.
Round Three Courses
Information for Round Three courses was sent to schools on 11th August. These courses commence on Monday, 6th September and continue until Thursday, 25th November with the exception of school and public holidays. Please remember that each course may have variations and it is important to carefully check the dates on the course outline issued at the beginning of all courses as well as the venues, dates and times on the actual course information you receive when selecting courses.
Testing for Entry into secondary GATE programs
Students who participated in the GATE testing earlier this year have received their results and will be notified of whether or not they have been successful in gaining entry into one of the 2012 GATE programs by Friday, 24 September. More information about this can be accessed via the GATE website:

Book Creator

Congratulations to year 6 PEAC student Annabel Harvey, from Subiaco Primary School, who has been awarded 2nd prize in the highly competitive "Make Your Own Storybook Competition" run by the Children's Book Council of Australia. Annabel will receive her prize and certificate at a presentation ceremony at the Fremantle Children's Literature Centre in Fremantle on Sunday, 22nd August. The presentations will be made by visiting author, Meg McKinlay. Annabel's beautiful book, titled "1912" tells the story, in diary style, of a young girl travelling to New York on the Titanic. Her book will join other winning entries in an exhibition at the Alexander Library and will be used during workshops with visiting school groups before it is returned to her in September. Well done Annabel!
Buy My Duck

Congratulations to Jasmine Irvine who, after participating in the ‘Buy My Duck’ PEAC course, was the state winner of the ‘Buy My Duck’ competition run by the WA Department of Commerce. Jasmine’s ‘Survival Guide to Shopping’ consisted of a creative, informative and entertaining stop-motion animation which succeeded in promoting the rights and responsibilities of consumers by educating others about refunds and warranties. Jasmine, of Hawker Park Primary School will be presented with a certificate and $250 by representatives of the Department of Commerce. All of the PEAC team are very proud of Jasmine’s achievement. Well done Jasmine.
